Bio
Maarten Gheysen (B) is architect (St Lucas 1999), stedenbouwkundige (GAS-RP, UGent 2002) en behaalde zijn doctoraat in de architectuur in 2020.
Na zijn afstuderen werkte Maarten bij Xaveer Degeyter Architecten aan After-Sprawl. In de periode 2002-2020 was hij aan de slag als stedenbouwkundig ontwerper bij de intercommunale Leiedal. Recent (2020) richtte hij zijn eigen praktijk op: Studio Urban Advice & Design, of Uad.
Naast zijn praktijk is Maarten sinds 2006 betrokken in het ontwerponderwijs. Eerst als praktijkassistent aan Sint Lucas, momenteel als halftijds professor aan de faculteit Architectuur van de KU Leuven. In zijn onderwijs en onderzoek focust hij op de vele collectieve bestemmingen die verstedelijkt Vlaanderen rijk is en bouwt hij aan inzichten en een ontwerpvocabularium om met deze plekken om te gaan.
De combinatie van praktijk en academia maakt het mogelijk om enerzijds de praktijk te verrijken met inzichten en anderzijds het academische werk te koppelen aan dagdagelijkse projecten.
